Hurricane Harvey

During the last weekend of August, a huge storm hit Houston/Southeast Texas called Hurricane Harvey. It rained so hard that it caused massive flooding. Homes and buildings were being flooded. People had to evacuate because of how high the water was. I heard on the news that it was about 50 inches of water! The water looked as high as the traffic lights. People had to travel by boats in search of people needing transportation. None of us could believe how much impact the hurricane had on Houston. Thousands of people were left homeless and needing comfort.

When the hurricane was still going on, it came our way towards central Texas. It was nonstop rain and strong wind for 2 days straight. I was almost worried it would flood here too. Luckily, we live on high ground and the storm didn't affect our area. We were overall safe, but still had to be careful when going out and about.

I was grateful that we weren't in any danger, but my heart instantly went to those suffering from Hurricane Harvey. The floods caused a lot of damage to houses and people's belongings.  I instantly knew that I wanted to do something to help Houston out. Also, Collin served his mission in Houston so he wanted to find ways to help as well.

Luckily, people stepped up to help right away! Our church started searching for opportunities to serve those who are in great need. Our leaders sent us emails about what kind of items we can donate to Houston. We decided to put together emergency supplies and donate it to a church in Austin. It was small bag of items, but we know that someone out there will greatly appreciate our donation. It's the little acts of kindness that go a long way. My heart feels so full that people want to start helping so quickly. We pray for Houston everyday to be safe and comforted.

The church where we made our donation. This picture doesn't do it justice, but there are so many bins filled with emergency supplies. So many people have made such incredible donations!

Wheeler Baby Shower!

First of all, it's September!!! That means Baby Girl Wheeler will be here in about 1 month! It's crazy how fast my pregnancy is going by.

On the 2nd of September, we decided to make that day my baby shower. I had no idea what my friends were planning so everything was a surprise. I gave them ideas on my pinterest account, but other than that, I had no clue. I come by and see that everything was neatly decorated with gold stars, pink and gold pom poms, and a pink table with gold dots and goodies. :) We added baby/couple pictures of Collin and I framed around the house. It was so beautiful and perfectly fitted for a baby girl.

Of course, we also had some photo opportunities. There was a pink background put up where we can have a photo booth. Kudos to Amazon for having such amazing photo props! (Not to mention they are cheap.) We used both a digital and Polaroid camera to make the photo booth extra special. A big thank you to my friend/host Hailey who let us use her Polaroid camera. I want one someday!

We played a few fun, creative games during my shower. My friend McKenna is brilliant at putting games together. :) Since there were people there from different wards, we played a get-to-know-you game. This helped us become better acquainted with one another. We basically found things that we had in common with someone else. Things like favorite color and TV show, life accomplishments, etc. We had these cute magic wands to find each other.

In between games, we would take snack breaks and photos at the photo booth. The second game we played was a Disney princess quote quiz. I am a Disney fanatic so I was excited to take this quiz. You had to match the quote to the Disney princess who said it. I ended up getting 100%! I thought it was a clever idea to put together for a baby girl shower.

Later, it was time to open presents. I ended up getting such nice gifts. Most of them included diapers which is what we needed. We even had some gifts delivered to us from long distance family members. They couldn't make it to the shower, but it was so sweet of them to buy gifts for our sweet little baby.

There was overall a great turnout of people that could make it. I am so thankful for my sweet friends who put together my baby shower. It's times like these that I am grateful to be near such amazing friends when we live so far away from family. Everything turned out so great and my baby and I felt so loved. Now it's time to get everything ready. Baby Girl will be here in just 7 weeks!
