Lost in Austin

Well... we have lived in Austin for a little over 2 months now and we really like it here so far. Of course, we miss Utah. If anything I think about it all the time. But we really like our new home here. Not to mention, it's a warmer state. :)

Collin is really enjoying his job at GM. He started on June 8th and has been training at his position as a software developer. He has taken classes about Object Oriented Code, a class on Oracle and SQL Databases, and he's learning how to program Java Servlets. If you don't understand what I just wrote down, it's okay. I don't fully understand them either. In fact, I had to have Collin write it down for me before I typed it all on here. Haha. His training ends this week. We love all the great benefits he gets from his job.

With that being said about benefits, we were able to buy a brand new car recently, courtesy of GM! It's a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze and we are just in love with it. It has everything that we were looking for. The features include hands free blue tooth that connects to your phone. You can call someone without using your hands. You would use voice command for who you want to call and it will automatically connect to that person for you. It also includes backup camera which is a very good safety feature. It has a remote start where you can start the engine from outside of the car. It includes a turbo engine. You can go 0-60 mph within 8 seconds! There's just a lot of great features. We are still thinking of a name for our car. We like Jarvis or The Flash. Feel free to let us know if you have a name suggestion or if you like the names that we came up with. :) Here are the pictures of our car.

I don't know why, but I've always wanted a red car. I managed to convince Collin to buy us a red car.

With it's color and turbo engine, don't you think The Flash is a great name? :)

We love the interiors too. You cannot go wrong with new car smell. :)

What happened to our old car you may ask? Well, it was seeing it's last days, but we figured it would be best to sell it. We sold it to the same  car dealership that we bought the chevy cruze from. So now, we still have only one car, but it runs well and will last a while. Collin just got a bike that he can ride to work. We only live a mile away from GM so it's not a bad bike ride at all. Which means... I will get to drive the car more. :)

As a lot of you may or may not know, it was recently the 4th of July. :) Our Independence Day was pretty low key, while at the same time fun. We just basically did more cleaning and organizing at our apartment, which really needed to be done. By the end of the day, we met with some friends from our ward and went Downtown to see an orchestra/firework show. It was really cool to hear the patriotic music while at the same time, watching the firework show. You can see a beautiful view of Downtown as the buildings are lit up at night. We ran into a problem while trying to get home on the train. But luckily, our friends thought of Uber, an app which lets you know about rides in the area. All I can say is... thank goodness of Uber. It really does save your life. Overall, the 4th of July was great! Here are some pictures from that day.

 Our 4th of July Picture/Card. :)

Fireworks! I like how this one looks like it's in red, white, and blue

 Even more fireworks

 The view of Downtown

My camera phone doesn't do it justice, but the city looks so pretty lit up. :)

The Sunday after, we decided to be patriotic when we went to church. I love Collin's tie. He got it for his birthday last year. :)

   Selfie time. :)

We really wanted to experience more of Austin, so we decided to go kayaking through Downtown. I didn't know it until we got there, but we kayaked down the Colorado River. I had no idea that the Colorado River went through Texas! We went to this place called Live, Love, Paddle. You can kayak for basically as long as you want for $20 an hour. We decided to kayak for an hour. It was amazing how much we got to see while kayaking for just an hour! We got to explore nature, go under a bridge, and see the whole city of Downtown Austin. It was a gorgeous day! I only wish that I took some pictures, but I didn't want to take any risks since we were floating on water. :) we managed to take one picture right before we went out.

We're pros, also, Collin is representing Shark Week. :)

It's been a really fun summer just spending time around Texas. I still feel like there is still so much to see in our new home state. I promise, there will be much more to come about our Texas adventures. Stay tuned! :)
